Shoot first and ask questions later. That´s our motto at Columbia College Hollywood ("CCH"). CCH is the international community of future filmmakers where art, academics and ambition all reinforce each other to create a powerful learning experience.

Making your own movie isn´t a privilege here - It’s a requirement. CCH learning is hands-on. Columbia’s professors and instructors are working film professionals, thus the majority of classes are in the evening.

Along with their workplace know-how, our faculty brings you their academic credentials and their artistic drive. You don’t just learn to do what they do; you learn to do it at their rich level of understanding and motivation.

That’s the combination that makes the CCH experience unique - studying principle and theory gets you in touch with your best and deepest talent, while practical production work develops the skills to express that talent to its fullest.

CCH welcomes students from all over the US and all over the world. Their wide mix of backgrounds and cultures, and their common commitment to succeed, make for a special spirit and camaraderie. In this energizing environment students “crew” on each other’s films and learn the networking and collaborative skills so crucial to professional success.

Our graduates are working successfully in all aspects of the entertainment industry in Hollywood and around the world.

At Columbia College Hollywood we believe that the best filmmaker is one who understands all aspects of filmmaking. Writers, directors, production designers, actors, editors, cinematographers, composers, and sound people all benefit from understanding what’s involved in writing a script, the kinds of choices a cinematographer confronts, how actors reveal subtext, how sound and music can enliven and transform a scene, the way images are assembled in the editing room. And the best way to understand these things is to do them. Columbia College is about hands-on learning.

We are also about storytelling: what do you want to say and how do you want to say it? Movies are not just collections of pretty pictures. They are stories told visually. They are about ideas and emotions. But, before you can tell a story, you must have something to say. The CCH experience fuses professional studies with liberal arts, because exposure to ideas stimulates personal growth and expression.

Another way to stimulate growth is to study what has come before. Through survey classes, students are exposed to film and television history. They discover the wide range of subject matter and techniques available to them and come to understand their place in the ongoing dialogue that is film and television today.

CCH students are required to work on each other’s projects, supporting and challenging one another in the effort to reach ever greater heights.

This attitude, along with small class size, creates an atmosphere of cooperation. The level of personal attention from instructors and students alike translates into a custom-tailored college experience that is simply not possible at many larger institutions. In addition, this spirit of intimacy fosters the development of relationships which will continue long after graduation. Lively interactions with instructors , most of whom are active industry professionals, and with fellow students who will be industry professionals someday, lay the groundwork for valuable networking contacts. We also encourage the active pursuit of internships and pride ourselves on our record of industry placement. In recent years Columbia internships have led to positions with Oliver Stone, Carsey Werner, and William Morris, to name but a few.

Unleashing the student’s potential is the principal goal at Columbia College Hollywood. In many respects, filmmaking is like learning a new language. It takes time, patience, a rich, nurturing environment, and the freedom to experiment and take risks. Columbia College offers all that —and more.
