A BFA in combined Cinema & Television demonstrates a broad understanding of the technical, creative, and business aspects of both the film and television/video industries, with an in-depth focus on one or two areas of special interest. The BFA in combined Cinema & Television at CCH provides hands-on training in the operation of professional equipment and state-of-the-art techniques with intellectual exposure to the wider world of media and liberal arts studies. Students work toward the creation of a portfolio (“reel”) which showcases the student’s skills and vision in filmmaking and television production.
Students earning this degree have career opportunities at entry-level or higher positions in the film, television and video industries. These positions include Producer, Development Executive track, Director, Technical Director, Screenwriter, Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Assistant Camera Operator, Gaffer, Grip, Editor, Sound Recordist, Sound Designer, Assistant Editor, Production Manager, Assistant Director, Production Assistant, and Production Designer. Note: Assistant positions are typically entry-level positions. However, some students have gone on to direct, produce, shoot, and edit films right out of CCH. For example Robert Schwentke, a graduate of CCH, directed the Jodie Foster action film “Flightplan” shortly after leaving CCH. Schwentke also subsequently helmed major feature films “The Time Traveler’s Wife”, “Red” starring Bruce Willis, and also directed episodic television including the Fox-TV drama “Lie To Me.”
