TRANSFER APPLICANTS(U.S. CITIZENS)
Students are responsible for having the previous school or schools forward official transcripts to the Admissions Office. Transfer units are determined under the following rules:

  • The previous school must be an accredited college or another institution acceptable to CCH.
  • Units must carry a grade of 2.0 or better unless they are part of a transferred degree such as an Associate of Arts.
  • Individual units can only be granted for courses comparable to those offered at CCH.
  • No more than 96 units—half the course of study—can be accepted in transfer toward the BA degree. No more than 48 such units may be in liberal arts, and no more than 48 in the student’s area of emphasis.
  • No more than 48 units in liberal arts can be accepted toward the AA degree.

The following can be accepted with junior year standing: those who have completed an AA degree (two years); those who have completed a BA degree (four years) or higher; those who have 96 transferable units (48 in liberal arts).

  • Transfer units in the student’s area of emphasis are subject to approval by the Dean of Academics and the Dean of Students. Either Dean may require the student to pass a written or practical examination.
  • Transfers may be completed before enrollment. Any additional transfer applications will be considered individually by the Dean of Academics.

PROVISIONAL ACADEMICS
In special cases, some admission requirements may be waived and the Dean of Academics may allow “provisional admission.” When granting provisional admission, the College may impose specific conditions on the student, including special documentation. All those conditions must be met, and the student must maintain a minimum GPA of at least 2.0.

DEFERRED ENROLLMENT
Upon acceptance, a student may defer enrollment for up to a full calendar year. After that a student is generally asked to reapply, though deferment extensions are sometimes granted under unusual circumstances.

CONCURRENT ENROLLMENTS
Concurrent enrollment at other institutions is discouraged. Transfer units from institutions in which a student is concurrently enrolled are not accepted by the College.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
CCH does not give credit for experiential learning.

NON-MATRICULATED STUDENTS
Students wishing to take only a single class or two, without being part of a degree program, are allowed to do so at a slightly higher cost than that paid by the matriculated student.

Non-matriculated students must submit the same application requirements listed above for all students, including the application, the essay, the letters of reference, and appropriate transcripts from high school or college.

Classes so taken do not bear credit which may apply toward a Columbia College Hollywood degree, nor will taking such classes authorize an international student to receive a student visa.

JOB PLACEMENT
All students are strongly encouraged to meet with the Placement Advisor upon enrollment. Employment is not guaranteed but CCH offers career counseling and guidance that prepares students to meet the challenges of the highly competitive entertainment industry. For-pay and for-college credit internships at entertainment production companies are available year round. The Placement Advisor assists students in selecting internships, drafting resumes, and preparing for interviews.

In addition, the Faculty Association mentors students with senior status. Each student is matched with a faculty advisor in his or her chosen field of study. The advisor offers one-on-one counseling. Many faculty members are industry insiders with invaluable insight into the craft and the business of movie and television production.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
The Student Government holds regularly scheduled meetings to address the academic and professional concerns of students. Information may be obtained from the Dean of Students or the President of the Student Government.

Students who wish to form new academic, professional, or recreational organizations may submit proposals to the Director of Administration.

Students are also encouraged to join industry-related professional organizations, such as the Independent Film Project (IFP). This helps nurture professional growth and expands opportunities to network with industry contacts.
