Application Deadlines
In order for the College to receive and process all the required documents in a timely manner, we strongly recommend that students file their applications and submit supporting documents at least three weeks before the start of the quarter.
Early Action Decisions
CCH subscribes to an Early Action admissions program for the Fall quarter, whereby the Office of Admissions prioritizes the review of Early Action candidates who have completed applications, including all supporting material, submitted by December 15th. The Office of Admissions makes every effort to notify Early Action candidates of their admissions within thirty (30) days of the receipt of all information.
In some cases, the Admissions Committee may defer making a final decision until it has received a report of the candidate’s final transcripts, additional scores, or until a personal interview takes place.
Application Procedure
1. Complete an original or online (not faxed or e-mailed) admission application typed or legibly printed with ink. Be sure to date, sign and return the form with a $50 non-refundable fee or College Board ATP fee waiver. Make checks payable to Columbia College Hollywood.
2. Submit a personal essay of 500 words describing your educational and professional objectives and why you wish to pursue the intensive study of cinema/television CCH provides. We want to know about you, your interests, and why you have reached the decision to study and pursue filmmaking. (If you are applying online, write the essay using a program such as Microsoft Word, edit it carefully, and then attach it to your application.)
3. Official transcripts from all high schools you attended and from any other post-secondary educational institutions must be received by us. Transfer students and students who have attended other colleges must ensure that official transcripts are received from each school attended. Admitted students are required to submit final transcripts to verify that all work in progress is successfully completed. In the event that the final semester of work does not meet required criteria, acceptance may be denied. Advance Placement students must submit official AP test score results with a minimum score of 3 in order to receive college credit.
With your authorization, when you list the the name and address of prior schools attended on your application for admission, CCH will directly contact your prior schools and pay for the cost of obtaining your transcripts.
4. Two character recommendations written by people who have known you for at least a year and are not family members must be sent directly to the Office of Admissions by those writing them and not by the student. References may include an employer, an official of the last school attended – preferably a teacher, counselor, or principal - or a film/TV industry professional.
If you provide the name and address of your recommenders at the time you submit your application for admission, CCH will contact your recommenders directly and provide them with our Recommendation Form. To view or download a CCH Recommendation Form, please click here.
An interview may be requested with a prospective student prior to final admissions consideration.
Optional information to include with your application:
Portfolio and Sample Reel
CCH does not require a portfolio or sample reel of your work with your application. If you wish to attach a DVD to your application, we will gladly review it. Please note that we cannot return any materials or supporting documentation you send with your application.
Standardized Test Scores
CCH strongly recommends (but does not require) the submission of SAT/ACT scores. Why? As a film school where creativity is held in high esteem, we look at the whole person and choose not to judge applicants based on a one day test that may or may not reflect their overall creative and artistic abilities.
AP Exams (CCH code 4321). Advanced Placement students must submit official AP test score results with a minimum score of 3 in order to receive college credit.
SAT Exam (CCH code 1247).
ACT Exam (CCH code 5553)
