Traveling To Los Angeles

By Air: The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is approximately 25 miles from Columbia College Hollywood.  Local buses run 24 hours a day to the various hotels in the Hollywood area.  There are also Taxi Cabs and Shuttle services such as the “FLYAWAY” bus service to Van Nuys.  Look for information booths or inquire at the airline desk at the airport.  There are also several car rental agencies at the airport.  Car rental policy differs between companies but a valid driver’s license and major credit card is usually required.  Some companies will not rent to you if you are under 25 years old.  It is best to check this before you leave your home.

The Burbank Airport in Burbank is about 15 miles from Columbia College Hollywood in what is known as the San Fernando Valley.  It is “over the hill” from Hollywood.  Similar transportation services are available to Tarzana.

By Bus:  Greyhound has a terminal in San Fernando at 14729 Rinaldi St, phone (818) 898-3416 or in Hollywood at 1715 N. Cahuenga Blvd, phone (323) 466-6381. There is also a Greyhound terminal in downtown Los Angeles at 1716 East 7th Street, pohone (213) 629-8401.

By Car:  Make sure that you have good maps, one which shows the major freeways, and one for the city streets.  You may obtain these maps at most car rental agencies, travel agencies and automobile clubs.  If you are driving, please be aware of the heavy traffic during certain hours of the day.  Whenever possible you should try to avoid driving during the rush hour periods.  Morning rush hour is usually from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM and evening rush hour is usually from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  In some areas you may also encounter a noontime rush hour.

Local Bus Service:  The MTA or Metropolitan Transportation Authority has a central telephone number, 213-626-4455, for bus schedule information, available from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM 7 days a week.  You may look in the yellow pages for telephone numbers and route information located in the front of the book.  A local MTA office address is 14435 Sherman Way in Van Nuys.  They will tell you how to get from one place to another and which buses to take.  If you get lost or need information, call this number and tell them where you are and where you need to go.

Temporary housing near the College campus is advisable if you have not made arrangements with friends or relatives.  You can search sites such as Expedia or Hotels.com to find hotels near the College.  Be sure to search using the college’s zip code, 91356, so you can find hotels within close proximity.
