The Directing Bootcamp is designed to give you an idea of the many responsibilities of a director from preproduction to production. You’ll start by analyzing a scene for dramatic content and creating a shot list and a shooting plan for the scene. Then, guided by your instructor, an experienced film and television director, you’ll collaborate with actors in the Acting Bootcamp to put your shooting plan into action, effectively communicating with your cast while blocking and shooting a scene. This bootcamp is an intense, 3-hour college-level experience that gives you a preview of life as a Columbia College Hollywood directing student.
The Acting Bootcamp is an immersive introduction to the art and craft of acting at the college level. Guided by your instructor, a deeply experienced screen and stage actor, you’ll learn body, vocal, and acting exercises that form a professional actor’s essential toolkit. You’ll perform cold reads of monologues and scenes then take on dramatic scripted material to craft your own original interpretation of a character. This bootcamp is an intense 3-hour experience that will illuminate what it takes to build a career as an actor after college. You’ll leave with a better understanding of the actor’s technique and the expanded freedom of expression that technique provides.
In the Screenwriting Bootcamp, you'll experience what it's like to work in our professional-style writers room under the guidance of an experienced Hollywood screenwriter. You'll brainstorm your own movie ideas, then you’ll apply the essential elements of screen story structure to workshop an original short film script. By the end of this bootcamp, you'll be able to identify fundamental characters, learn how to direct the film on the page, and discover why script formatting is key to a screenwriter's success. This bootcamp is an intense, 3-hour college-level experience that will leave you better prepared to write scripts for your original film productions or to add to a portfolio of creative work you'll need to apply for college scholarships.
