Student Production Policies and Forms

Shooting On Campus

Columbia College Hollywood offers a variety of shooting spaces on campus.  It is each student’s responsibility to know the production rules and regulations, as well as the safety rules for student productions before filming on or off campus.  All Columbia College Hollywood locations require a permit, which should be completed no later than one week prior to your first day of shooting.
Reserving equipment from the Equipment Center for student films is fairly simple.  All production packages of more than 10 items must be booked 5 business days in advance.  All other equipment must be booked at least 48 hours in advance. If you need to renew any equipment package that is already on loan to you, you may renew for an additional 24 hours only over the phone by calling (818) 401-1038 or by email at Any renewal for more than 24 hours requires the equipment to be returned to the Equipment Center and checked in, inspected and checked back out the same student.  All renewals are subject to the availability of the equipment.

Outside Equipment Rentals

When renting production equipment from an outside vendor, the vendor will generally want assurance that you are enrolled as a Columbia College Hollywood student and that you are covered by insurance.  Your current student ID should be enough to identify you as a student.  To add the vendor to our insurance policy as an additional insured party, you must complete an Insurance Request Form and submit it to the Equipment Center at least 14 days in advance. Please keep in mind that the amount of insurance available is limited and that even with insurance you are responsible for the deductible amount (currently $1,500 but subject to change). If your project requires using actors without pay, including minors, filming at an off-campus location, or utilizing licensed materials, you must obtain the proper legal release or you risk not being able to property exhibit your film.

Student Accident Insurance

When filming on or off campus, current students are covered for up to $50,000 in student accident medical insurance on college-approved shoots.  The maximum medical benefit provided under this policy is $50,000. You are solely responsible for any claim amount in excess of $50,000 filed by you or any member of your crew, or for any injury not covered under this insurance policy. This insurance provides secondary coverage to existing medical insurance and is provided to both you and your crew members, whether they are Columbia College Hollywood students or volunteers.  For a detailed description of coverages and exclusions, please click here.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Columbia College Hollywood from any and all actual or alleged claims, demands, causes of action, liability, loss, damage and/or injury (to property or persons, including without limitation wrongful death), whether brought by you, another individual or other entity, or imposed by a court of law or by the action of any federal, state, or local governmental body or agency arising out of or incident to any acts, omissions, negligence, or willful misconduct by you, your, employees, agents, contractors, or volunteers, in connection with or arising out of your use of the Columbia College Hollywood facility and non-college facilities for filming activities, except for the sole and willful negligence of Columbia College Hollywood or its agents. This indemnification applies to and includes, without limitation, the payment of all penalties, fines, judgments, awards, decrees, attorneys’ fees, and related costs or expenses, and any reimbursements to Columbia College Hollywood for all legal expenses and costs incurred by us. Equipment is not to be repaired, disconnected or rewired by students without permission.  Equipment upkeep is the sole responsibility of the Equipment Center and/or the Production Coordinator.  If you have a problem with a piece of equipment, complete the appropriate form and return it with the equipment to the Equipment Center.
